you'll eventually fuck up your rack too.  So if you want to spend about $400-$600 on a manual rack go ahead and remove it.  I pulled the belt off the pump of my 5th gen when it had a leaky line and couldn't hold fluid.  It didn't take long to ruin the rack.

DO NOT run your rack dry. loop the lines on the rack WITH some fluid in it (really hard to steer though) or pull the rack and make it a manual rack.

like jay said you need fluid in the rack to keep it lubricated or u'll be buying a new one like kristen said. just make sure there is fluid in it when you plug or close the hoses off. preludes aren't designed for manual steering things that could help would be a larger steering wheel or not disconneting it. or just buy underdrive pulleys.

eh, I say someone help him do it if he wants to. Everyone has laid out the disclaimers & why not to, but if he wants to I say go for it & cause issues all you need to.
