| Burt and I can probably help. Burt would be better qualified than me but i'm always happy to turn some wrenches.

| | Why exactly do you want a skunk2 manifold? I've never seen a dyno showing they gained enough power to make their cost and trouble worth it. I'm not exactly interested in swapping intake manifolds while the motor is still in the car. Ask Chris and Ryan how much of a pain it is! Hell, I thought about it last weekend and I couldn't even see half the bolts on the bottom, and I have extra space underneath since my motor and manifolds are smaller than the h22's.

| Not to knock your purchase, but skunk 2 manifolds are waaay more hassle than they are worth. Better off sending an IM to Blacktrax to have them port and polish.
The story, SKUNK2 rushed the release of the manifold to meet demands, as result, its not complete, missing connections etc, and is essentially, POS.

| well luckily I havent bought it yet. I'll tell you what im looking to do and get out of this car at most. Intake manifold preferably best gains for $ but def. willing to spend more if its better quality. Cams and gears. Which brands should I be looking at for cams and such and who has the best prices? When I get this figured out I'll def. be needin some help. Justin F. |

| | If you want more power from essentially bolt ons plus cams, here is what I'd do... Blacktrax stage 2 or more intake manifold, good header (Vibrant is good and affordable for a real performance header, T1R is another decent one, don't get a DC or equivalent), Crower Stage 2 cams and valve springs of some sort, Apexi N1 Exhaust (or custom exhaust with 2.5" mandrel bent pipe), and a good tune. You might also consider boring the stock throttle body to 62-64mm (maxbore.com) or an aftermarket piece somewhere between 64 and 68mm. Bigger will give you more up top, but smaller will make the car more street friendly. The other way you can go for an intake manifold is get a Euro R one. They make pretty good power, but require a little trickery to make work correctly. Search for writeups on what needs to be done. I think the blacktrax way is a bit better and costs about the same. Make sure you get a spacer for the IABs if you go with blacktrax. It's worth it. You could also substitue the Crower cams and springs for stock h22 Euro R or Type S cams. You won't pick up as much power but you'll save a significant amount of cash. My guess is you can get all the good stuff for about $2-2.5k and you'll make a reliable and streetable 210-220whp... about 30-40whp more than stock unless you have a freak motor. The Type S cams will save close to $700, but you'll loose about 10whp or so.

| | Ok well for the time being I think I have settled on doing a blaktrax IM w/spacer. After the research and opinions it def. sounds like the best option. Also, anyone on here who is experienced want to help me install cams and springs and retainers so I don't get molested on labor costs by a shop that will half ass it anyways and then tell me how sweet they are at working on all Honda's and Acura's. I will leave that shop unnamed at this point.?? |

| | You can say it... we all know to stay away from Zerolift. How many miles are on the motor? It might be worth taking the head off to have it rebuilt and have the machine shop install the springs/retainers. While it's off, you could give it a little port job if time and money allow. I can help do cams pretty easily. I've never done them on an h22 though. Springs/retainers are a bitch though, especially stiff double springs. Stock honda cams (or crower stage 1's actually) can use stock valve springs as long as you are mindful of the revs... basically stay below 8k rpm and you're fine. Did you have a power goal and budget other than "best performance for the dollar"?

| HA. Well I was making a poor attempt at PC to not berate local businesses. I mean truly they are the only local Cinci shop (I am excluding TD =total dogsh*t performance.) Which is kinda pathetic. Anybody know what happened to Raceline? Well the motor is sitting at 140K However, it seems like before me this car was mostly highway miles and such. Its the standard 12K a year since its inception. I was also thinking of leaning towards Crower stg.1 I mean I can get stage 2's with spring and retainer from crower for almost the same price I can just get the Skunk2 stg1. cams without the springs and retainers. SO i figure why not beef up a little more than just like an extra 80 bucks? Or is that completely illogical with the miles on the motor. My end goal is def. not to blow her up. either way Intake Mani. Is my first step. Im actually thinking of taking it up to Colettie Motorsports in Dayton to at least run a baseline to see where Im at to see at least if there might be some general things I need to replace. I.e. Cat. Conv. Any opinions on that shop? |
