So since I need to start saving my money i'm looking for ways to improve my cars performance without spending money, so why not lose some weight and rotational loss by gutting the power steering. Has anyone done this and be able to lay out what all goes into the uninstall and what belt size I would need? And if you have done it or know of someone who has do they have any complaints about it? The car isn't very heavy so I cant imagine it being that bad to park with no power steering. My car has basically become a nice day driver and soon to start autox since I've worked out all my bugs. Any info would be appreciated.

Why?  The idea is rediculous.  You won't save more than about 15lbs.  tops.

I'd listen to Kristen on this one--she had to drive her third gen. part of the way to NPM without power steering. It doesn't strike me as a fun experience.

My first car was a 1989 Plymouth Acclaim with a tempermental power steering pump. I lost power steering on several occasions, and even for a minute or so, it killed my shoulders. And it was frightening during certain corners. I'm not sure the weight of the car would have a huge impact on the ease of driving without power steering. I say if a car comes with that feature, leave it alone. What's next, you'll decide to disable/remove the ABS, too? That'd be detrimental in most driving situations.

You want something to lighten your car that won't cost money? If you're feeling hardcore, find out how to strip out the sound deadener material in your interior. That should save more than the 15-ish pounds of the power steering pump, and the only drawback I can think of is that road/engine noise will be louder in the cabin.

(While rounding the last corner at Nelson Ledges)
Craig- "Wow, is this an SH?"
Me- "...No."
Thanks, Craig.

Pull the belt off the powersteering pump and drive like that for a few days. Then decide if you really want to loose powersteering.

I know what I'm gettin myself into by removing it. My moms big SUV's power steering was out for a long time. Its only a pain when parking since your wheels are not in motion much. So does anyone have any help with removing it?

I don't think anyone here other than the guy above has removed a perfectly working p/s system.

Try hondatech?
